I found the characters to be very sweet, and the way the three of them interact with each other shows how well they fit together. Their banter had me laughing a few times. Relationships between two people are already hard. This is even more complicated, with the feelings of three people that need to be considered. It's certainly a balancing act, and I love it when they complement each other.

Their individual goals are understandable, and I wanted them all to succeed.

The trials to become Ares were good. The second and third are my favourite ones for how well Helen shows off her strengths. I definitely like the outcome of the trials.

Plot... I wish there was more of it throughout the book. The plot has promise by the end. That's when it started to get interesting. This was the first book in the series that I read, but it ends in a way that makes me curious and want to read the next one. I get the "a storm is coming" feeling and I want to see it happen.

I don't usually read out of order, so if there was any explanation of the world (e.g. where Olympus is, what's outside this city, or what's the barrier) in book 1, I missed it, but it wasn't really necessary. I caught on pretty quickly to the important bits once I started reading.

There's lots of sex between 2 - 3 people if that's your thing, plus plot. Well. Sex, feelings, and action. Then plot.
