Brittle Joints by Maria Sweeney

emotional medium-paced

5.0

I picked up the book because of the gorgeous cover. Then I read the dedication and the second I read it I knew I would love this book.

I thought this graphic novel was very real and true showing the world her reality and experience in the world living with a Bruck Syndrome.

I connected to Sweeney while reading her graphic memoir because I have a cronic illness as well. And it's hard to describe in words what it's like having an illness that can't be fixed or cured and having to continue on living and growing around it. I resonated when she talked about the sense of grief and loss that comes with being chronically ill.

I loved the times she describes how beautiful nature is and how healing she finds it. She can find some sense of peace amoung the sun, the breeze, plants, flowers and her dog Bambi.

I think it was awesome how she talked about her experience with weed and how much it helps her. It's definitely something that needs to me talked about more in society.

On a final note the art and illustrations are beautiful. A read that will stick with me.
