Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center
4.0
Helen has been divorced for a year, but still feels she needs to toughen up. At the suggestion of her brother, who is 10 years younger, she decides to do a grueling month long wilderness challenge. Unfortunately, she discovers that her brother’s annoying best friend, Jake, is going along on the same trip.
While some of the set up mechanisms in this book were a little juvenile or far fetched, this was a good book that explores a lot of deeper questions about happiness and what makes someone happy. This is a closed door romance that provides quite a bit of heat and tension between the two main characters, but the growth of the main characters was the main focus. The high stakes situations and character development allowed the main characters to come into their own over the course of the book and I was truly rooting for their success. Overall a thoughtful well written book that kept me turning the page way late into the night.
