Into the Tide by Laura Pavlov

I’m blown away at how high the reviews are for this and how often these books and author is recommended. I read this because I saw the author all over TikTok and thought I’d give it a try.
This was not good… the writing is really not good. The idea and the story is okay, it’s very predictable and surface level. I felt like I only knew the characters mildly and they were all one dimensional.
I hated the bantering and talk between the siblings, I skimmed over it. Every time the author tried to be funny, it wasn’t. I can’t believe the words vajazzle and magic schlong were used in this and not as a joke.
I hated the pervy lady, that was weird, I hated her brother Travis. I don’t mind the brother’s best friend trope, but I absolutely can’t stand when the brother is so overbearing to the point that it’s weird. Like why would your brother ever care about your choices as an adult woman that much, it’s just so weird.
In the end none of that even mattered because it was resolved in a matter of pages, and a super predictable punch to the face.
The spice was okay, best at the beginning, then it was just them going at it over and over. I never really understood Hugh’s interest in Lila. He’s known her his entire life but somehow everything changes in one instant as she comes into his restaurant. So many people mention how beautiful she is, and that’s pretty much it.
The whole book is super, super repetitive and could’ve been so much shorter. It’s just their internal thoughts of the same bs over and over, she doesn’t want to move away, they’re having sex but it’s just for now, the brother can’t know, that’s literally all that’s happening the entire story and of course neither is in love with the other.
This book is just boring and lacking, very disappointed. I won’t continue this series and probably won’t read from this author again.
