[Bond, James]: Alphabet, Anatomy, [Auto]biography is both an examination of James Bond as portrayed in Ian Fleming's original novels (much more than the movies), and a critical illumination of James Bond as a cultural figure. Disler looks at Bond through the lenses of gender, sex, and violence, taking him apart without looking down at the character and his influence. Interesting and engaging even to someone who has little knowledge of Bond, as I do. (I've read none of the books and seen only a fraction of the movies.) Disler's poetic style is unusual, but effective. A real hidden gem, I think.
