The Deal by Elle Kennedy

5.0

OH MY ABSOLUTE GOD I JUST FINISHED AND I IMMEDIATELY WANT TO DIVE INTO WHATEVER THE NEXT ONE IS I AM SO INCREDIBLY SWOONING OKAY LET'S GET STARTED WITH THIS REVIEW!!
the off campus and briar u series has been on my tbr list for the LONGEST time, and i am so so glad i found this series (online!!). i have officially started my descent into the world of beautiful sports romances, and i will not be looking back!!
starting off with the sports: hockey. i love hockey. both my brothers play, but before this book i never really paid attention to hockey players. safe to say i have rethought my entire course of thinking. all my scenarios in the past 24 hours have had hockey. not lying.
i adored the amount of hockey in this book. it was always present, but it wasn't too much or entirely focused on it. it's obviously a huge part of garrett's (and all the other guy's lives as well), but it doesn't seem forced or overbearing. the way kennedy wrote it was chef's kiss.
speaking of garrett and hannah, i fell in love with them. this might be too early, and i might change my mind as soon as i read logan and grace's story, but hannah and garrett are such a cute couple!
i feel like some of the best romances happen when you aren't expecting them to. and in this case, garrett and hannah both weren't really looking for a relationship (with each other specifically, because justin still exists.) i liked watching how garrett's "no girlfriend" rule became more and more lax over time, and watch them slowly fall for each other. it was the perfect perfect romance.

for trigger warnings: this book does contain past experiences of rape. if that triggers you, or makes you uncomfortable, i would recommend checking out another one of the books in the series first, as they can all be read as standalones! it is a significant event that happened to hannah, but all mentions are past, however it is a part of her character arc so it will be talked about. i did like how she doesn't really "get over it", because honestly: how do you get over such a traumatic event that happened to you when you couldn't do anything to stop it? i really admired hannah's mindset of growth, and she resolved to move on, for both her and garrett's situation.
garret's character arc also talks about previous *physical abuse. if that also triggers you, i would warn you to proceed carefully. it is mentioned later on in the story, but it also does get talked about and is a big part for a bit of the story, so just be aware of it.

this was a deliciously good read though. i've been missing some cute fluff mixed it with angst sugar coated with more fluff, and i couldn't put this book down all morning! i loved the way the ending wrapped up, it was an almost fairy tale ending to a glorious book. i say almost, because i will be reading the mistake yes, and i'm hoping i can catch a glimpse of hannah and garrett there.

off campus book one is living up to the hype so far! onto the next one!
