The Family Experiment by John Marrs
5.0

This reminded me of the movie Don’t Worry Darling in a few ways, and once again, John Marrs nailed this plotline.

I don’t have much to say except that I love this series so much, and I can’t wait to see what Marrs comes up with next. He has tackled finding your soulmate through DNA matches, self-driving cars and hostage situations, government-implanted secret data in individuals’ heads, marriage being manipulated and managed by the government, and now, the concept of trying out an AI child in a reality TV show setting. These plots are so intricately woven together and the way he addresses societal issues in his dystopian and speculative books always throws me for a loop.

As always, there are multiple POVs, multiple timelines, and short, jaw-dropping chapters that leave you wanting more. The reveals towards the end show how everything plays out and how everyone connects to each other. This man is brilliant. End of story. Take some more of my money, John. You’ve earned it.
