The Law of Moses by Amy Harmon
5.0

Amazing. I have that great achy, daydream feeling when a really good book hits you in the gut and you aren't quite sure where to go from here.

Amy Harmon is an excellent writer. Every detail was vivid, I could picture the farm and the horses and the people without the details taking over the story. This book was packed with depth and emotion-- I spent the last half of the book (which I couldn't put down) on the edge of tears.

I agree with other reviewers that people should know this is a paranormal-type story before going in. However, I was expecting vampires or aliens or something... so not THAT paranormal. But Moses is a little different and has a special ability. There is also a little bit of building mystery, one I did not put together!

I connected so much better with the book and with Moses especially in the second half of the book. The first half he was flighty and confusing. Georgia was awesome and stubborn.
Spoiler I love the way the reunion was handled. There were fireworks, but Georgia wasn't willing to forgive and forget easily. I usually hate time gaps, but after the time gap was really where this story came alive for me. I also HATE pregnancy used as a plot device, but this was so much different than the typical "separated for years and then he finds out she was pregnant".

Trigger warning: I think this is important for anyone who has recently dealt with tragedy
SpoilerContains child death. That is a big spoiler, but the second half of this book was hugely emotional and I think could be really scarring for anyone dealing with a similar situation

Ending:
Spoiler Great ending! I think I needed an extra chapter in there of Moses waking up, but that would be my only complaint.
