I am very curious to see if the next book will actually address how horrific Jude's actions were against Cardan. I was surprised how lightly the book seems to address her taking away his free will while at the same time telling us how awful and traumatising it is for humans to be glamoured. The first book basically told us that boys pull our pigtails because they like us, the second is telling us... Cardan is a complex and damaged character worth our sympathy but at the same time we don't need to properly explore or confront the fact that our hero takes away his free will and ability to control and consent what happens to him? I enjoy books with villainous antiheroes but they only work if they actively make us explore and confront that these actions are bad and harmful.
