North of Boston by Elisabeth Elo

3.0

(3.5) This was a very interesting and disturbing look at Boston's commercial fishing industry, and at the sickening sadists who slaughter animals for pleasure, so if that bothers you, I would pass on this.

I liked Pirio and her attempts to soften her heart despite growing up in a family that necessitated hardening it. I liked the glimpse of the perfume world and the expedition she goes on in the end of the book. I loved Noah and the relationship between him and Pirio and his mother; troubled but loving.

Good, but not great.
