Forever Never by Lucy Score

3.0

Normally, I'll gobble up a Lucy Score novel like candy but this one took a long time to get through. Like, months. I took a break and almost forgot about it entirely until I was re-organizing my Kindle library and realized I never finished this.

This book feels dreary and just drags on. Most Score novels do, to be far, but the bleak tone and repetitive conflict in the first 50% just never ended. The same tired tension between the two leads was played out on a loop.

I wasn't too big a fan of Remi, but Score's independent, smart-mouthed heroines tend to be a hit or miss for me. I thoroughly enjoyed Brick, his chemistry with Remi and their growth by the end, but those three were about the only things I vaguely missed when I finished reading. I skimmed through the last 20%, which ended similarly to Score's previous novel Riley Thorne and the Dead Guy Next Door (which I also felt meh about), and didn't feel like I would've missed out on much if I never finished it. Maybe Brick's dirty talk, which definitely should've come in way sooner than the last half.

I prefer Score's romcoms, but her signature humor shone through at quite a few surprising but much needed moments. Quite a bit of steam in the latter half, but sadly it doesn't make up for the meh and meandering plot.
