3.0

Portrayed through motifs and reoccurring symbolism, Shibli paints a dark and terrifying representation of the Israeli soldier and the generational connection between the Palestinian women the text focuses on. Nearly devoid of indepth emotion, this book pushes the reader to consider their own reactions at the centre of the reading experience. The author successfully uses the shortness to her advantage, and while somewhat difficult to originally appreciate, the description heavy text completes itself in an apt but truly horrifying way that makes the book truthful but, intentionally, not particularly enjoyable.
