Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher

adventurous funny mysterious medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Plot
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? No
It’s so fun to see T. Kingfisher’s fingerprints on this. You can see the interest in paladins who have lost their divinity that will come back in the Saint of Steel series. You can also see the interest in the horror of Awoken deer/forest creatures that comes back in The Twisted Ones.
I don’t usually read so much of one author’s body of work so I’m really enjoying this!

(Obviously this is a more clumsy version of what is executed in Kingfisher’s later works, but I still had fun with it and am looking forward to finishing the story in The Wonder Engine.)
