A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair
5.0

This book relies heavily grief. There were moments I had to take a step back because despite time, the grief comes in waves. One day you’re okay, the next? You’re doing dishes and it hits you - how gone someone is who you loved as much as you did. With all things - grief comes change and grief isn’t limited to physical loss - but death of who we once were to become better for ourselves and those around us. We really see Hades take a step out of himself and hold himself accountable with the lack of communication to Persephone, not going straight to sex when they need to talk (it happens though but not always and that’s progress!) We also see Persephone give herself some credit - we see her in wrapped in all of this grief and through that she finds the love she has for herself by standing up to Demeter, her mom, not just for herself but also in defense of Leuce! I loved this so much. It’s also broken by some comedic relief from Hermes which is just very refreshing 12/10
