I feel bad giving this book a 3 star. On face, it should have been a complete hit out of the park for me: political intrigue with an almost anime fantasy setting? I thought for sure it would be a favourite. Unfortunately, it just missed something for me and I didn’t feel as connected to the characters as I wanted to feel. That said, it is well written and I have no doubt it would be a perfect read for others. The world building was great, and it was also refreshing to read a setting outside of the usual fantasy. I think it’s an easy 4-5 star book, it just wasn’t for me this time.
