Providence by Caroline Kepnes

I had such high hopes for this one and I didn’t even know this one the author who wrote You so I guess that’s a bit more disappointing. I have to admit though, supernatural stuff isn’t my cup of tea so I wouldn’t take my review into account much.

This book just had me in a constant state of sadness. All three of the characters were just really so isolated and it really just didn’t make me feel good at all.

It started off really well and the first chapter really sucked me in, but after that it just fell off. The writing in the first chapter was amazing, I was loving Jon, I loved the cliffhanger it left on.

After that I just felt bad for Chloe, and then I couldn’t understand how after years she couldn’t just let go of the past (get some therapy, you were in love with a 13 year old and you literally haven’t seen him since why are you still in love with him). I respect that at the end she had some sort of relationship with him but honestly it didn’t seem like a relationship worth putting years of your life on hold.

Jon’s life was depressing, and honestly still is. I respect supernatural stuff and I was willing to embrace it but we were left with the same amount of answers as in the beginning. We still have no idea why or how Jon is doing this weird vampire stuff asides from knowing the kidnapper guy was obsessed with a book and a plant. Like cool okay but Jon hasn’t found anything out, the only development was people found out and accepted it and Jon had a realisation that “he wasn’t the monster”.

Eggs I understand, it’s stereotypical for a cop to be obsessed with a case and whatever but also it was fully ruining his life. Like how stubborn can you be that you literally prioritise it over your whole life? And then for him to just accept it and not care about it all once you find out why? Shouldn’t he still be curious? I would argue that he barely got an answer so why just accept that?

It was just chapters and chapters of this supernatural stuff happening and all the characters being depressed with their lives, and in the end for what? No answers. I’d happily accept this book if I got any hecking answers, but no.
