The Absolute Book by Elizabeth Knox

4.0

Engaging, well-written fantasy novel with some beautiful prose. The Absolute Book definitely takes cues from thriller/mystery novels, but also dwells at times on personal grief and ways of coping, all woven into Irish and Norse mythology, heaven (but mostly hell), and a love of libraries and the (im)permanence of the written word. I do think that it could have been edited down to a slimmer volume and it would have been "tighter" and zipped along a bit more, but as it is it's a bit slower at times and better to get lost in for a little while.
