Why Academic Freedom Matters: A Response to Current Challenges by Cheryl Hudson, Joanna Williams

4.0

While this was published in the immediate aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo censorship, many of the essays make wider points about the academy’s place in civil society, the push towards mediocrity led by the bureaucratisation of university management, and the desire for students to treat universities as entertaining safe spaces rather than venues for challenging thought and debate. The book is still relevant, and academic freedom is more threatened today, as seen by responses to recent events.
