Honestly, it was just alright. Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite directors and I love his brilliance of magical realism in films, but that brilliance was lacking in this book. It was written more like a screenplay than a novel, with multiple smaller arcs from various perspectives that contribute to the larger arc. Even then, I miss the richness and the visual opulence, and the opportunity to construct a magnificent story was wasted.
