This book is very cozy and the magic elements are fun and creative. I think the magic lessons and potions were my favorite parts of the book. The cast of characters is small, but they make a nice found family and the young girls are very sweet. There were some twists I saw coming, and some I didn't. I feel like the last part of the book does get a bit "wtf?" There were some events and discussions towards the end that really threw me off.
They just buried the body in the garden and tied the lawyer up in the barn? And somehow the lawyer was in the wrong for trying to make sure his client was alive and being angry that he was assaulted? I feel like there had to have been a less insane way to both set up and deal with the death situation. I understand that you want to say homophobia and racism are wrong (with the lawyer) and you want to have Primrose involved to help (with the dead sister), but this was not the way?
The romance was fine, but it wasn't the most compelling part of the book and I don't know if it was meant to be.
