Across the Universe
by Beth Revis
Across the Universe is one of my new favorite books. It's so thrilling and I couldn't stop reading. It's a sci-fi sort of love story that is still action packed and mysterious.
The book begins many years in the future where a young 17 year old girl and her parents are being cryogenically frozen to be put aboard a spaceship and flown to a new planet to begin a new life.....but the planet is 301 years away. Which means being frozen in a chamber, stuck with your thoughts and fears for 301 years. Sounds like the ultimate torture. The story alters thoughts between Amy in her chamber, and Elder, a leader in training aboard the spaceship (Godspeed) some 290 years in the future. But when someone wakes up Amy a little earlier than scheduled from her Cryo Chamber... She is devastated to find her self aboard the bustling ship Godspeed, instead of her new planet Centauri Earth. She befriends Elder and a few other members of the ship, Things are run very different here on Godspeed and as she learns the adjust to the artificial sun and recycled air, there are murders happening to the some 500 other frozen people from earth. Someone aboard Godspeed is pulling them out of their chambers to be left for dead. As Amy and Elder race to find the killer, and the many secrets that Godspeed holds, they have a spark between each other, and Amy decides if she's ready to love a new boy.
It's an overall wonderful and great book and I definitely recommend it. Don't forget to read the sequel, A Million Suns, and the prequel, Shades of Earth. It's my new favorite trilogy series.
