Ledge by Stacey McEwan - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Read the digital ARC between 24 August and 27 August. Special thanks to NetGalley and Angry Robot for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.

Like many others, I originally found Stacey and her (planned) book through her Tiktok. The summary she gave sounded fun and I ordered the book online. I even put the release date in my planner. Sadly, the book did not get released at that time, because a publisher had reached out to edit the book, and editing a book takes some time. A year later and I am still following Stacey on social media and I found out I could request an arc for this long-awaited book.

Happy to inform everyone the book most certainly lived up to the hype and was worth the wait.

In Ledge a group of humans is trapped on, well, a ledge. Food is scarce, living is tough because it's extremely cold on the mountain, there is no way to get off the ledge and every now and then Glacians (winged creatures with talons) come to pick up human sacrifices. Where they go and what happens to those people, no one knows. The story follows Dawsyn, the only remaining member of her family, who gets selected as a sacrifice. She manages to escape the clutches of the Glacians with the help of Ryon (a half-Glacian). Enemies to lovers, knife (and axe) to throat.

Writing - 8/10 ⭐️

I've read that Stacey is a school teacher, but I am not sure what she teaches. I do know that she writes very comprehensively without the text being too simple. It was a very comfortable read. For a second I worried the snark and sexy scenes might put me off (they often do), but they were surprisingly well-written and not overdone.

Plot - 10/10⭐️

Glacians, people living on a ledge, this is all very new to me. Whenever I thought I was beginning to see where things were going, there was a new plot twist. There are betrayals, dangers, unexpected allies, and very sneaky enemies. The ending was a complete surprise to me and I cannot wait for the second book.

Characters - 7/10 ⭐️

The side characters were great, but
Dawsyn (hope she isn't based on anyone) rubbed me the wrong way at times. Of course, I have not spent 24 years of my life on a ledge and can not imagine the (trust) issues that come with it, but the extremities made Dawsyn less likable. Luckily, the side characters more than made up for her attitude and she ended up thawing quite a bit.

Enjoyability - 10/10⭐️
This book was very enjoyable and I am very glad to have gotten an arc. This was great for a debut novel (and I've seen far worse from established authors) and I think Stacey McEwan should keep up the good work.
