The Russian Cage
by Charlaine Harris
4 stars - It was really good
Lizbeth Rose has received word from her sister that her estranged partner, Prince Eli, has been arrested in the Holy Russian Empire and no one knows why. She heads to San Diego and ends up working with her sister Felicia, Eli’s family, and the gregori Felix to investigate his imprisonment.
Like the previous books, this one sucked me in quickly and I couldn’t stop listening. The investigation into Eli’s imprisonment kept me on my toes and was captivating, especially since we see a different part of the world in this one. The Holy Russian Empire is very misogynistic on its views of men and women but Lizbeth refuses to be that way. I loved seeing her change people's perspectives on women, especially Eli’s family who were very useless in this because they stuck to the gender rules.
Like always, Lizbeth is a badass in this. She is taking people out who try to kill her, she plans a jailbreak, assassinates someone, and protects the Tsar and his wife from assassination. This was just an action packed story that kept me on my toes and further made me fall in love with these characters. This book also brings about big changes for Eli and Lizbeth’s relationship and I am very curious to see how that goes in the next book.
Overall, this series has been fantastic so far. I really have enjoyed Lizbeth’s adventures in this post-apocalyptic world and I can’t wait to see what the next adventure contains, especially since Eli will potentially be there with her.
