The Labors of Hercules
by Agatha Christie
3 stars, mostly for the idea behind this, because I love it. Even though we all know Poirot did not retire after them, I enjoyed how he said his last 12 cases would be modeled after the labors of Hercules (hence the title). The bit of Greek mythology crossover was fun, and I like how the stories were loosely connected. But unfortunately the way it usually goes with Poirot short story collections is that they are very hit or miss, and this was no different. Poirot works better when he has time to examine the case from all possible angles, and in short stories he doesn’t have enough time to do that. Still fun and one of the better short story collections in the series, but it can’t compare to the novels.
