Wow this book was heartbreaking. It was more than a romance, it was a book about survival and a woman taking her power back after years of horrific abuse. This book starts with Mia our FMC waiting to interview for a position at an architectural firm after fleeing her abusive marriage. She goes on to meet the grumpy architect Max, along with his friends and family while trying to hide her tragic past that still haunts her mentally, emotionally and physically. This isn’t just a romance between Max and Mia, but a love story between Mia and the people that rally around her while she picks herself up after being beat down for years by her husband.

This was an incredibly realistic story about the effects of DV on not only the survivor, but everyone around them as well. This book broke my heart and had me shedding so many tears along with the characters in this story. The way each of the characters in this book cared for Mia as they started to become privy to her situation is exactly what every person who has been harmed by abuse deserves. The story was heavy, but something that will touch everyone who reads this story. Highly, highly recommend.

This book does take place in the UK and being from the US, I did have to reread some sections of the dialogue to understand some of the natural slang used. Although I was confused at times, it was very endearing and made me this story so heartfelt and entertaining in the more laidback interactions between these characters.

TW: Detailed domestic violence, PTSD, panic attacks.
