I got an ARC of this book.

Classic pirate tale. Lots of sword fights, some chasing from the crown, a mutiny. You name it and this book has it. Even has a wonderful scene of a setting the crown’s ships on fire. What more could a pirate fan want.

That being said, the story was just a typical pirate story. The big difference just being gender. Oh no, a female pirate. The story would have relatively been the same if the MC had been male. There was nothing that made this stand out from other pirate stories. The few times her gender comes up actually annoyed me, because it was usually sexism (show me your boobs sort) or because her outfit choices.

The art was fantastic. My only issue was that there was just constant cleavage shots of the MC. I don’t expect skin tight clothing to be the most comfortable thing to pirate in. Outside of it is restrictive, it would also not offer as much protection from the elements. It just felt like a poor choice. One of the creators even mentioned in the afterword that one of the legends had her dressed solely in mens’ clothing. So I am not sure where the idea of a skin tight shirt that couldn’t even fully button came from.

I do look forward to seeing where this story goes. I want to give it a chance to wow me outside of the art. It was a good beginning to a fun story, but it really depends on how volume two goes.
