Kurangaituku
by Whiti Hereaka
I found it tricky to get into, but after a while the bird-woman really got its claws into me. A retelling of Māori tale, from the POV of Kurangaituku (the bird woman), it is a meditation on nature and the cycle of life from te Pō/te Kore (the night/the void) and back again
The structure of the book was circular - readable from either/both ends ending in a central core - being a good fit to the story/concept.
Definitely worth making the effort needed as a reader.
