I have been eagerly anticipating Carter’s story since he was first introduced in Chasing Fortune. He also made an appearance in Chasing the Storm. He’s always been this enigma and Brittney’s loyal readers have always clamored for more of him. It was definitely worth the wait.
There’s a reason Carter is known as The Devil. After listening to his wife be murdered while on the phone with her, he spent more than two years hunting down those responsible at the cost of his reputation and his soul. His reputation has been restored, but he doesn’t believe he deserves peace or happiness.
Five years later one phone call brings him right back to those dark days. He must now save the woman he’s become obsessed with. She’s the only woman who never lost faith in him. She always saw the good in him that he refuses to believe was there.
This story is rife with suspense, danger, intrigue, and passion. As with all of Brittney’s books, it’s more than just a love story. The world building and character development are detailed and in depth. You really get to know these characters. There is nothing surface level about them. The situations these guys find themselves in keeps you on the edge of your seat, and there are always plot twists you never saw coming.
I know many readers of this series had certain opinions of who Carter should end up with. I’m so glad Brittney listened when Carter spoke to her and went the direction she did with his book. It’s simply perfect. Carter deserves every bit of happiness he gets in this book.
