Deadly Proof
by M. Louisa Locke
One of the best series I've read! Locke really puts you into the world of Victorian San Francisco, from the landscape and transportation, to the formalities and proprieties of the time.
I love all the information about the printing presses that play largely in this book, I learned a lot about how things worked. So much work people had to do back then to produce a printed piece of paper, pretty cool.
Annie and Nate are investigating the murder of a print company owner, and Seth happens to work there. The woman accused of killing him isn't saying anything, but Nate has a feeling she's innocent.
Annie's been shedding her Madam Sybil identity during their engagement, and is working as an accounting consultant, so she's hired by a Women's press company, giving her access to information about the murdered man's business practices.
In among all of this, Nate and Annie set a date for their wedding, Laura and Seth form a friendship, and Laura helps solve the mystery while studying for her university entrance exam.
Well written, many layers, fun interspersed with mystery, great book, excellent series.
