It has a slower start than some of the other books in the series. There is a bit of Roarke's pov in this one, and his interactions with Summerset without Eve. It was nice, since we don't see this often. So, it has a bit of a different beginning. I thought this book would be okay.

But it's falling flat. I'm not as interested in this case or these characters as I was in previous In Death books. Maybe it's because it's not as outrageous as some of Eve's other cases, those with snipers, teams of killers, cases related to the recurring cast, or a big mystery. I also didn't like Rochelle much. I do feel sorry that her brother died, but her attitude doesn't make it easy to like her.

There are a few interesting and funny parts of the book, and some interesting random one-off characters, but it's not enough to keep me engaged.

I eventually did finish the book. The final bit with the complete takedown of two gangs and the ensuing interviews afterwards were more interesting.
