The Woman in Black by Susan Hill

4.0

Killing you darlings comes to mind with this book. SPOILER ALERT. I think Susan Hill got very caught up with the idea of wanting the story to come full circle and she fell in love with her ending, which was predictable and left the earlier parts of the novel feeling somewhat unfinished. I think the character would have gone back to the house and not left until he had given the village some sort of closure. I do not believe that he would have just gone back to his life after seeing the things he saw.
The ending was poetic and devastating, but it wasn't as integral as another path might have been.

I'm deciding between 3 and 4 stars because I did enjoy the read and I think I'll go for 4 because in the grand scheme, it was only the last couple of chapters that let it down.
