Sufi Path of Love: The Spiritual Teachings of Rumi by William C. Chittick, Rumi

challenging informative reflective relaxing slow-paced

5.0

reading rumi is a spiritual experience in and of itself, but there is something that shifts in one's soul when every word, every repeated metaphor, every turn of phrase that has struck you in some explicable way suddenly becomes explicable. chittick doesn't just take an analytical look at rumi's teachings but provides a roadmap into his works, providing context from the macro to the micro of sufism. he delves into topics such as god's attributes, meaning vs form, the essence of man, and the idea of love, drawing a clear, coherent thread to each section of theory. knitting this all together is a treasure trove of quotations from all of rumi's works, decoding all of his imagery and literary choices in the context of the fundamentals of sufism. really lovely book that i definitely want to read again!
