Saeris Fae lives in the Third Ward, and has to steal water from the Queen in order to survive in the dry climate. When she unlocks a key and travels to the world of the Fae, she is tasked by the King to use her alchemist powers to create relics with quicksilver. She is forced to work with Kingfisher, a dangerous Fae with secrets of his own. Kingfisher will do whatever he can to end the war and keep his loved ones safe. Will Saeris ever be able to return to her home and can she learn to create relics to allow people to travel through the portals again?
I loved this book! It was the right book at the right time for me. The worldbuilding and characters were fleshed out. Saeris and Kingfisher "Fisher" had amazing chemistry together. I loved the banter and the angst of Fisher being able to compel Saeris and how they made that work within their growing relationship. Fans of Fourth Wing will love this new series.
