It took a while for me to really get into the story. Basically over half way through. The writing style was challenging and I did find myself re-reading passages. With most books, I can clearly picture what’s going on in my head kind of like my own private movie. With this, I couldn’t ever fully construct Proofrock or Jade’s surroundings.

For me, reading this felt like a chore until the last five chapters or so. I wouldn’t say the story ever scared me or had me on the edge of my seat. Sure, there was gore towards the end and a mysterious set up in the beginning, but it never gave me that jolt of adrenaline I usually enjoy. That said, reading this may set me up for success with other reads from this author. I am interested in the sequel but I’m not sure how quickly I’ll go out and buy it.
