Disappearing Earth
by Julia Phillips
Beautifully crafted, heartbreaking, engaging, mysterious—all words that describe "Disappearing Earth" by Julia Phillips. I plowed through this book. From the first page to the last, I was engrossed in the stories surrounding the disappearance of Alyona and Sophia Golosovskaya, two Russian girls who go missing off a Russian peninsula. Rarely has a debut author been able to craft a story so intelligently and flawlessly. Each character and their story had the emotional depth of a whole novel, and while I was very excited to start a new character when a new chapter came, I couldn't help feeling sad I had to leave the one I was with. I cannot give enough praise of this book.
