I think this book was a disappointment considering the many positive reviews it receives. I enjoy Plath's poetry, and while this is a meaningful and thought-provoking depiction of depression and what it means to feel lost and unsubstantial, Esther's intense racism diminishes the likeability of the book and its protagonist.
