Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

3.0

3.5 stars BECAUSE I can’t in good conscience round up to four stars.

In plot-heavy moments, her weaker writing really shows through and is difficult to ignore. There were some sub-plots that REALLY annoyed me and were immature and tedious.

I will not spoil the ending. All I will say is: It felt unearned (like most of the “relationship” conflict between Xaden and Violet) and forced.

I rolled my eyes one too many times reading this one. The unnecessary (and childish) plot-lines could’ve been reduced or removed entirely and cut out about 200 pages.

Now, for the positives: we had some character development (for the “side” characters anyways) and when the plot was actually plotting, it was engaging. The “main” story so to say was good without all the angsty and distracting fluff.
