Gild by Raven Kennedy

3.0

Gild gets a 3-star review simply for the fact that this book struggled to keep my attention. It was primarily 350ish pages of prologue and 30ish pages of 'pulling you in' material. It took me a very, unnaturally long time to finish this book. That being said, the writing, world, and character building were beautifully done. I will be continuing the series because that's just what I do when I start one. We got just enough of a taste of Captain Rip to keep you wondering about his story, so I'm excited to see where that goes. Auren's story is intriguing. I feel we are going to have a big female empowerment moment in the books to come. I love her troubled past. I want her so badly to be un-golden it's not even funny. Midas seems like a typical narcissistic gaslight-er, and I loathe him for how he treats her, and then for how he reacts at the end of the book. Also, I've heard the books get significantly better.

In regards to spice, not even a full chili pepper. I think there was one scene, and it was very 'vanilla.'
