Solo: A Star Wars Story by Mur Lafferty
4.0
This might have been the tightest film novelization I’ve ever read — it felt exactly like the movie except in print. Hitting plenty of fan-service points throughout, it expertly shows Han Solo’s development from scrappy street thief into the (apparently) calm and self-assured veteran smuggler and star pilot that we all met in 1977’s A New Hope. We’re all aware that Solo’s thin veneer of smug overconfidence barely masks desperation, fear, and loneliness, and this book/film makes that clear — while also showing he’s still somehow a good guy inside even if he doesn’t recognize that in himself.
(I’ve published a longer review on my website.)
