This is hard to judge. I tried to plow through it for book club due to time, and I think that did this book a disservice. Furthermore, it concludes in an ambiguous way that leave the reader with questions and thoughts to ponder, more than wrapping everything up in a nice neat bow. I appreciate that, but was not in the best mental space to chew on its messages.

That said, this was a good read and I would be open to reading it again. Slavery leaves scars. Trauma leaves scars. Both leave their mark, physical and mental, and some may never escape their grasp. This is worth meditating on.
