i tried my best to get through this book, but decided i've had enough after the line about 'nobody wanting to date a girl that looks like she was let out of Auschwitz' around the 100th page mark.
who is this book written for? it's depressing. there's tons of weird remarks about africans and "third world countries". don't even get me started on the stereotypical gay guy friend who has NOTHING better to do than listening to his frustrated friend talk about how awful men are.
i get it - Bridget is supposed to be a bad character. she has problems, yes, but at least in the first 100 pages the book shows no character growth or anything else worthwhile.
you're just reading about a mentally ill person going in circles with her alcohol, smoking and gambling addictions. her closest circle enable her worst behaviors, she constantly looks at herself through the male gaze. Bridget manages to be overcritical of herself while also being so selfish she's a horrible friend and looks down at others to make herself feel better.
i just can't imagine how on earth this is supposed to be a funny enjoyable story.
