Endgame: The Calling by James Frey, Nils Johnson-Shelton
1.0

Honestly, if I could give this zero stars and have it count as a rating, I would. This book was not good. The writing was blunt, redundant, and flat-out BORING. The gore was OVER the top (did I really need to hear exactly how the bullet traveled through her body? No. No I didn't.), and it was a complete Hunger Games ripoff. And I haven't even READ Hunger Games yet. That's how obvious it was. (Not to mention I do not agree with Frey himself and that controversy, but that's a conversation for another day.) I know that Hunger Games was not the first dystopian book--not even close, actually, there were many beforehand. But it is one of the most popular currently and has been for a little bit now, so it is sort of a standard when it comes to dystopian. Besides, this book is a blatant ripoff.
There was not a single character in the book I enjoyed, not a single character I was invested in, not a single piece of the plot I cared about. I picked it up for the cover, and I picked it up because it sounded interesting, but that was three hours of my life I will never get back.
I would never recommend this book to anyone. In fact, I would probably steer them AWAY from it.
