I definitely enjoyed this more than book one since I only had a vague idea what happens and this is a series that definitely benefits from going in blind. I really enjoyed the way the story has continued to evolve as we see just how bad the capitol really is. I also appreciate the nuance given when showing how the capitol adores the victors but simultaneously revel in the pageant of it all.

It’s also nice to see Katniss grow up a bit, her past experiences allow her to have greater perspective on why Haymitch is drunk all the time.

Unfortunately this didn’t crack into the four stars realm because I found the start a bit too slow. It felt like it took forever for them to get back into the games - which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing but since the start was so slow it just messed with the pacing a bit and made the ending feel a bit rushed. I think some of the lead up could’ve been culled down a bit.

All in all, I’m really glad I’m finally reading these and I’m excited to see how it ends!

Also Katniss is still aro/ace coded and you can’t change my mind on this - literally what love triangle ?
