When it’s not hitting you with its out-dated views, the book has incredible writing that drips with style and prose on every page.

The mysteries are both intriguing and interesting. Marlowe himself is, too. I respect the overall rules he honors for himself.

Positives aside, I wish the women weren’t so one dimensional. Marlowe has more sexual tension with another man than he does with the women the story throws at him due to this fact. Most of the womens stories can be summarized by the men they had or have in their life. Whereas the men have more flexibility to be people rather than props.
