The Dark Half
by Stephen King
2.5 stars.
At its worst this book has some poorly-written moments. Phrases like, “the babies cried lustily” or “he laughed, without much humor” are heavy-handed enough to begin with, and need not be repeated over 3 times each. The middle of the book has very little action and repeats ideas more than necessary.
At its best, the novel is filled with humor, great characters, and a slow build to what (finally) becomes a satisfying and suspenseful ending.
Not a bad read, but it taught me some about the importance of editing.
