i read this mostly because charles frazier wrote 'cold mountain' which i absolutely loved. this also takes place in a small town in north carolina in the '60s. not a lot happens, not a lot of dialogue but it was so enjoyable. really subtle storytelling which i love lately. the simplicty of everything added a lot to the story, but on face value i could see people dismissing the book and finding it a slow read. i would recommend it to anyone looking for a dark look at life.
