Queen's Peril
by E.K. Johnston
I have almost three shelves lined with Star Wars books! A lot I’ve read, and many I haven’t. So for my 2021 reading list, I added a bunch of them that I’ve wanted to get though. I just finished #QueensPeril by E.K. Johnston last week.
I LOVED E.K.‘s first Amidala novel, #QueensShadow and was super excited to read this one which stands as a prequel to that one.
While this book is very well written, I’m sad to say I was disappointed and ended up giving it three stars on @goodreads.
To be completely honest, the two sentences about Anakin flying during the Battle of Naboo took off a whole star. That may seem petty, but that, along with some other random moments just seemed way out of place.
I appreciated and really enjoyed the story of Padme’s election and the early days of her Naboo rule, but about halfway through, we ended up getting into territory that’s already been seen in The Phantom Menace film. While yes, we got a look at some other things that were happening that weren’t in the film, I just don’t understand why we had to have a story during a period we’ve already seen a lot of content for.
Padme has an entire length of time as Queen Amidala that has NEVER been explored. I would much rather see more of that period in between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones than what we were given in this novel. I really hope we see that in the next volume of this series.
