I really wanted to like this book, the synopsis was enticing. But the first third of the book was basically just explaining how SNL works, which I feel like most people are aware of so the explanation felt unnecessary and long. The other two thirds of the book were set in the summer of 2020.

I didn’t mind that they reconnected via email during the pandemic. I thought it was weird that two almost 40 year olds were caught up with some person they knew for a week years prior. Where the book really lost me was when she decided to drive cross country, during the pandemic, just to hang out with the guy she’d been emailing for a week. I also didn’t love how insecure the protagonist was about her looks and how caught up she was in everyone’s appearances. I didn’t mind it at first, but it didn’t feel like she had any growth in that area.
