This is the second Kundera novel I've read this summer, and I can't tell yet if I really like him specifically or if I just need to read more French/European literary novels. Whatever it is, I really enjoyed this book—not so much for the particular story lines or characters (though I loved the Czech entomologist and would read an entire novel, a la Knausgaard, about the fictional Milan Kundera and his wife Vera)—but after reading a lot of books over the years in a lot of different genres this one had me thinking over and over: I didn't know a novel could do THAT.
