Cold as Hell by Lilja Sigurðardóttir

5.0

A gritty noir through a seedy side to Iceland. Lilja Sigurdardóttir shows her quality in this dark tale of abuse and mystery.

I have to say that straight off the bat, Lilja Sigurdardóttir is swiftly becoming one of my favourite authors. There is such majesty in the way Lilja shrouds her work in a tense cloak of shadow. Never giving everything away but giving just enough to ensure you devour the punchy chapters without ever wanting to stop. ‘Cold As Hell’ is no different!

An incredible variety of leading characters have such individualism that keep you pleading for more with the captivating Áróra’s story acting as a spine for the novel. The underlying story of abuse and family divides flows like blood, snaring readers to this story. Every free moment was spent with me picking up my kindle or the kindle app, just to get my next fix of Áróra’s story!

I need to take a minute to mention Quentin Bates who translated the novel. The translation was absolutely perfect and the flow beautiful. Thank you for all the hard work on this and all the novels you translate.

Lilja Sigurdardóttir is a Nordic noir goddess! She never fails to hit the mark with mystery, drama and thrilling twists. ‘Cold As Hell’ is the beginning of Áróra’s story and I’ll be diving immediately into ‘Red As Blood’! Thank you Orenda Books for the review copy!
